Proposal – Education Tax Refund replaced by School Kids Bonus

From 1 January 2012 (effectively) a ‘School Kids Bonus’ will automatically be paid to the parent who is eligible for Family Tax Benefit Part A.

 

            - $820 p.a. for each child at High School

            - $410 p.a. for each child in Primary School

 

There is no requirement to prove education expenditure, but keep your receipts for 2011/2012 until this becomes law.

 

For 2012 the full payment will be made in June 2012.

 

From 2013 half of the payment will be made in January 2013 and the other half in July 2013.

 

The last Education Tax Refund can be claimed in the 2010/2011 tax return.
